The Dot

International Dot Day

International Dot Day was a day created by Peter H. Reynolds author of the book, The Dot.

It is a day for people to be inspired to create something by using a dot.

Starting in 2009,  people starting celebrating International Dot Day to explore the story’s powerful themes:  bravery, creativity, and self-expression.

Students at Northwest have created several items based on using the dot.

During Library this week, Mrs. Franques has read the book.  Students created book marks using just one dot.  They also created a colorful dot using construction paper.

During Art, Miss Tribble used the dot to inspire some wonderful art work!

During the Science Lab, students completed STEM Challenges.  The lower levels used Dot Candy and toothpicks to create different shapes. After a discussion of different types of shapes, upper grade students tried to create a 3 dimensional Dot. After making the Dots, the the dots were measured to see whose dot was the widest!

Northwest students enjoyed making their mark and seeing where it took them!
