Washington Middle School's VEX Robotics team, the Eldo shARks, participated in the the Reddie for Robotics Tournament at Henderson State University on Saturday. Out of the 17 teams competing, the Eldo shARKS were ranked first for robot skills and brought home the Robot Skills Champion Award Trophy! Robot skills consists of a combined score for remote controlled operation of the team's robot and autonomous control (coding the robot to score goals on its own).
In addition to winning the award, the team was invited to compete at the Arkansas VEX Robotics State Championship in March!
Way to go, shARKs!

Janijha Wafers offered to help plug up iPads and Chormebooks in the library when she finished her work. She even asked if she could have a Clorox wipe to wipe down our MakerSpace tables! What a wonderful helper!
Thank you Janijha!

These students were treated to a visit from some local celebrities. On October 29, we celebrated our "Ride the Wave of Kindness Day." These Washington Middle School students were rewarded with a special meal and a visit from Coach Jones and a few El Dorado Wildcats because they were "Caught Being Kind." Congratulations to our students, and a big thank you to Coach Jones and players. GO CATS! #wmsismakingthingshappen

Emily Tran faithfully every day comes in from lunch and patiently waits outside in a line and is quiet. She is always the first one there and I never have had to ask her to line up. She is consistently there and patiently waiting quietly! -Mrs. Braswell

So thankful to the El Dorado School District for providing these opportunities to our students. This would’ve been a lesson we had to skip for time purposes, but because we have an abundance of technology, our students were able to use the digital version of this activity. Students mixed colors and different ratios to better understand equivalent ratios today in Mrs. Hickmott’s classes.

Students at WMS have an independent reading assignment each nine weeks, (2 books for 5th grade and 3 for 6th grade) but we want students reading beyond that as well! Take a look at our AR rewards this year. Our first deadline will be October 11th and students will need to have 30 or more AR points to participate! Please contact Mrs. Chelsey Turner with any questions!

El Dorado Schools keeps the safety of our students and staff as our top priority. While there has been no verification of any threats against our schools, we continue to work with local law enforcement to maintain safe campuses. The El Dorado School District has security measures in place and the El Dorado Police Department will provide an increased presence at each of our schools tomorrow to support a safe learning environment for all students.

El Dorado School District has been made aware of a social media post circulating that mentions threats against unknown schools in Arkansas and Kentucky for the coming week. According to Lt. Chris Lutman, Public Information Officer for the El Dorado Police Department, the FBI office out of Little Rock has made a general awareness statement (not a warning) regarding the threats. No specific schools have been mentioned and there has been no verified threat by any law enforcement agency in the state, including El Dorado Police Department. The safety of our staff and students is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the information with local law enforcement and will do everything in our power to keep our schools safe.

All library books are due back to the WMS Library by Friday, May 10th. We do not fine for late books, but students are responsible for paying for any lost or damaged books. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Chelsey Turner
