At Yocum we strive for each to succeed socially and academically. These are the skills kindergarteners learn to help meet this goal:
-Social/Emotional Skills (i.e. Kindness, Compassion, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Good Sportsmanship)
-Alphabet – All 52 letters (upper and lowercase), their sounds, and formation.
-40 sight words to master (read and spelled) by the end of the year (10 each 9 weeks)
-Spelling and reading simple words ( ex. Bus, bat, big)
-Writing simple sentences and stories.
We use programs like Alphabet Bootcamp, OG (Orton Gillingham), and Guided Reading, and Empowering Writers.
-Learn how to count 0-100, by 10s, 5s and 1s.
-Recognize, write, and represent numbers 0-20
-Add/subtract 0-10 throughout the year (this involves using different manipulatives and ways to find the answer)
- Comparing Numbers
Kindergarten uses Standards Based Learning to report successes and struggles within the required standards.
We look forward to working with you and your child this year!
