Future Cities

This past weekend, Washington Middle School Competition STEM students traveled to the University of Texas at Arlington to participate in the North Texas Regional Future City Competition.  Future City is a project-based educational program where students develop their idea of a resilient and livable city of the future. All teams have been working since the beginning of the school year to establish a virtual city, write an essay about their city, build a physical city model, and develop a presentation.

Out of 46 teams in the competition, the 5th grade junior team, Rockchester, left with the special award for Innovative Use of Construction Materials!  The landscape for their city model was created using spray foam.  Although they didn't win, the 6th grade team, Lacking Aqua, held their own against 72 other 6th-8th grade teams!  Great job, teams!
