Dr. Odom's journey in education began in a role as a maintenance worker in the El Dorado School District over 20 years ago. This start laid the foundation for a career that is dedicated to the betterment of education.

Driven by a profound love for the school environment, Dr. Odom pursued higher education to become a teacher. His experience as a substitute teacher during college ignited a passion for teaching that has persisted throughout his career, leading him to diverse roles such as an elementary music teacher to high school administrator.

Dr. Odom's journey took a significant turn when he returned home to serve as the Principal of Northwest Elementary School in 2022. His commitment to excellence and dedication to the growth and learning of both students and adults have been unwavering, making him a standout leader in the education sector.

The culmination of Dr. Odom's educational journey is marked by the completion of a doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY. His research focused on successful school principals in Arkansas, exploring how they facilitate adult learning, exhibit leadership behaviors, and navigate the complexities of their roles.

"Throughout the process, I had the honor to work with highly esteemed professors, superintendents, and principals who all work hard to ensure that students learn at high levels," said Odom.

The findings of Dr. Odom's research revealed that successful principals, like himself, possess a servant's heart and adaptability which, in turn, provides the right balance of direction and support that's crucial for the success of students and staff.

"The future counts on what educators do each day. I want to do my part, and I am so glad that ESD believes the same," added Odom.
