Kindergarten

At Yocum we strive for each to succeed socially and academically. These are the skills kindergarteners learn to help meet this goal:

  • Social/Emotional Skills (i.e. Kindness, Compassion, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Good Sportsmanship)

  • Alphabet – All 52 letters (upper and lowercase), their sounds, and formation.

  • 40 sight words to master (read and spelled) by the end of the year (10 each 9 weeks)

  • Spelling and reading simple words ( ex. Bus, bat, big)

  • Writing simple sentences and stories.

  • Learn how to count 0-100, by 10s, 5s and 1s.

  • Recognize, write, and represent numbers 0-20

  • Add/subtract 0-10 throughout the year (this involves using different manipulatives and ways to find the answer)

  • Comparing Numbers

Kindergarten uses Standards Based Learning to report successes and struggles within the required standards.

We look forward to working with you and your child this year!
