Innovation Station classes have been studying simple machines since the 2nd week of school. They have discussed all 6 types of simple machines and have done mini projects in order to put their knowledge to the test. Today they were working on pulleys. The students were given 1 spool (homemade version), 1 piece of string, duct tape, a wooden pencil, and a book. The students had to create a pulley to try and lift a book off the table about a foot. If they successfully completed that task, they were allowed to test out other objects (within reason) to try to lift with their pulley. One group was able to lift a student's backpack that weighed 6 lbs with the pulley system they created!
