Third Grade

Third grade entails many academic changes and high expectations. Third grade is the year that we pivot from standards based reporting to letter grades. Third graders work hard to prepare for state testing in the spring.

Students are expected to progress as independent readers and writers. Students are exposed to a variety of texts and genres. Complex texts are utilized to build fluency, expand vocabulary, and improve comprehension. Students are exposed to a variety of writings and are expected to successfully answer constructed response questions.

Technology is utilized in all academic areas to familiarize and prepare students for academic success.

Math focuses on multiple areas.

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

  • Two-step word problems

  • Interpret data using charts and graphs

  • Telling time
