The 5th grade WMS Archery team is off and rolling into state! They have already surpassed two out of their 3 goals set forth by Coach Kelton. Their 1st goal was to score at least 3050 sometime this year. Goal #2 was to win Regionals. Goal #3 is to win state. Their reward for getting two out of three is to shave Coach Kelton's head.

This weekend the Washington Middle School Archery Teams had their Regional archery meet. This meet was to qualify for the State Championship tournament in March. The 5th grade won their division with a score of 3072. This score places the 5th grade team as number 1 across the state. The top shooters were Zane Walker with a score of 278 and Emma Odom with a score of 275. These scores were high enough to place Zane and Emma as number 1 overall for the state of Arkansas this year for the Elementary Division for boys and girls. The 6th grade team came in 3rd for the Middle School Division going up against Barton Junior High (1st) and Taylor Middle School (2nd). They were able to score 3006 points with the top shooters being Avery Warren with a score of 267 and Lucas Vinson with a score of 257. The 5th grade has qualified for the State Championship Tournament coming up on March 3rd by securing 1st place at this meet. The 6th grade WMS team will have to wait and see if they get in with an at-large bid. Results will be posted as soon as possible! "I'm incredibly proud of both teams for how they performed this weekend. This is an amazing group of kids that show up and try hard every day in practice. It's nice to see that all of that practice time is showing up in the results of these meets. Hopefully we can see both teams March 3rd at State and keep the season going. As for now, we will wait to see if we make it (6th grade team). We have a meet this weekend at Benton, LA which always has some of the best teams in the nation. I think that that will help prepare us for whatever comes later this season for both teams. " - Coach Ethan Kelton

Ms. Angula Davis is providing a trivia question for Black History month in the mornings at WMS. Today the question was "Who was the first African American person to be seen on a stamp?" 5th grader Molly Smith was the first to buzz in with the correct answer. She said her teacher last year read a book about it. The correct answer is Booker T. Washington! Great job Molly!

Cheer Workshop 2023 is right around the corner. If you have a 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th grader that is interested in cheering at WMS or BJHS, this is a great way for them to test the waters, learn new things, and have fun.
