Today, we celebrate El Dorado High School teacher Penny Owens and the positive impact she makes each day! Graduating senior Anslee Smith said, “From the day I walked into my 6th period class in 10th grade, I knew that Ms. Owens would be my favorite. Her smile, passion, and strive to make an impact in her classroom was definitely shown. She was someone who has compassion for someone who may have been struggling. Someone that would help when your day was not going the best. Someone that would overall help you in and out of the classroom. I’m very thankful for the connection, friendship, and bond that I’ve created with Ms. Owens. As a senior, I still continue to wave and even stop by to talk to her when I walk down the hallways. The bond shared with her even when she is no longer my teacher is something I cherish the most. Thank you to one of the best and memorable teachers, Ms. Owens. I love you!” Thank you, Ms. Owens, for everything you do for our students! If you’d like to nominate a staff member, visit bit.ly/ESDWildcatImpact.

Kimberly Alexander attended the University of Central Arkansas, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education K-6. She currently teaches first grade at Hugh Goodwin. Mrs. Alexander’s older brother attended UCA, so she had already been hearing great things about the school when she went on her first visit. Once she experienced it for herself, she said “it felt like home.” When asked what made her time at UCA special, Mrs. Alexander spoke of the friendships she made. “One thing that made my experience special was the relationships I built through the mission trips I went on with the campus ministry Chi Alpha. While I was in college, I spent a summer at LIV Village, an orphanage in South Africa. After I graduated with my education degree, I went back to LIV and taught in the school for a year. " Thank you, Mrs. Alexander, for sharing about UCA! If you are interested in learning more about the University of Central Arkansas, visit https://uca.edu/.

Yesterday, the El Dorado School District Athletic Director, Phillip Lansdell, and Athletic Trainer, Morgan Atkins, presented Junction City High School and Strong-Hutting High School coaches with inflatable cooling tubs to be used to help prevent heat related illnesses in their athletes. Mrs. Morgan said, "This donation was made possible through the Korey Stringer Institute. The KSI mission is to provide research, education, advocacy and consultation to maximize performance, optimize safety and prevent sudden death for the athlete, warfighter and laborer. KSI reached out to Athletic Trainers in our state to help find schools without an Athletic Trainer to donate these cooling tubs to. Both schools were very appreciative of the donation." Thank you, Mrs. Morgan, for being an advocate for our students and all the students in our area! We are so blessed to have you on our ESD team!
