Today, we celebrate Yocum Elementary teacher Stacy Gulick and the positive impact she makes each day! Mrs. Gulick was Heather McGarity’s daughter’s kindergarten teacher, and the impression Mrs. Gulick made has lasted years. “Her kindness and love for the children was so genuine. As a parent, I felt so much at ease leaving my child with her the first day. Shortly after Christmas, my daughter's grandfather passed away, and the pure love and care she offered to Emily was heartwarming. Her teaching laid such a fabulous foundation that carried forward for years to come.” Jennifer Harvey, whose children were also students of Mrs. Gulick, said, “She is a great lady. My kids are older, and she still checks on them and treats them so good.” Thank you, Mrs. Gulick, for all you do for your students! If you’d like to nominate a teacher, visit bit.ly/ESDWildcatImpact.

Today, we celebrate EHS choir teacher Greg Oden and the positive impact he makes every day! Hannah Craft, former student, said, "He was the only teacher I had all 4 years of high school, and he was always super funny and wonderful. He taught me so much beyond music, and he was one of the first people to make me feel fully accepted. " Thank you, Mr. Oden, for all you do for your students! Last week, each Yocum Primary student was able to pick out a book and take it home, along with a letter encouraging parents to read aloud with their child, for World Read Aloud Day. Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Thomas also read a story to every class, as well.

Governor Asa Hutchinson has proclaimed the week of February 7-11, 2022 as National School Counselor Week in Arkansas to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within the U.S. school system and how students are different as a result of what they do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students meet their college and career aspirations. The El Dorado School District would like to thank our school counselors for all they do in-and-out of the classroom to meet the needs of our students. From college and career planning to academic and mental health guidance, their jobs are never-ending. From all of ESD, thank you!

World Read Aloud Day is recognized on the first Wednesday of February. Students across the district celebrated this week with special guests and wonderful books. Third graders at Northwest Elementary participated in a virtual read aloud by Miss Arkansas USA, Stephanie Barber. Students gathered in the cafeteria to listen as she read "The World Needs Who You Were Made To Be" by Joanna Gaines. Thank you, Miss Barber, for reading to and visiting with our students!

Hanah Hodge teaches 2nd-grade math at Hugh Goodwin Elementary. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Louisiana College located in Pineville, Louisiana. Ms. Hodge chose Louisiana College for its strong education program, but she was pleasantly surprised by the “unmatched student community” the school offers. She enjoyed being involved in various campus activities including being a member of the Union Board and the BCM. Another part of her college experience that made her time at LC special was the opportunity to be an LC cheerleader. Thank you, Ms. Hodge, for sharing about LC! If you are interested in learning more about the Louisiana College, visit https://lacollege.edu/.
