Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!
Dr. Seuss believed all children deserve the opportunity to escape into the world of imagination with reading. Each year, on his birthday, students across the US celebrate National Read Across America Day, including students like Aubrey Clark. A 1st grader at Yocum Primary, Aubrey enjoyed reading in Ms. Morgan's class during their independent reading time today!
What is your favorite Dr. Seuss book?

Katie Harwell, a teacher at El Dorado High School, graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Interior Design. She currently teaches Visual Art for grades 9-12.
Mrs. Harwell chose to attend LA Tech for many reasons, including the outstanding Architecture and Art Departments. She loved that Ruston is a small town, and the bonus is that LA Tech is a great college. Her experience was special. “The professors are fun, and the town is very supportive of the University. My college years were wonderful!”
Thank you, Mrs. Harwell, for sharing about LA Tech! If you are interested in learning more about Louisiana Tech University, visit https://www.latech.edu/.

Northwest Elementary received a phone call that caused some concern this morning. Administrators felt it was important to act with precaution and put the building into a Level 1 lockdown while the phone call was investigated. Parents were able to check students out with proper identification, but students were kept inside during morning recess. At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that the concern was unfounded. The lockdown was lifted, and students resumed normal outside activities. The El Dorado School District is grateful to the Northwest Administration for its quick response and focus on student and staff safety.
February is almost over, and Spring Break will be here before you know it!

Haley Moore, a teacher at Washington Middle School, graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-6). She currently teaches 5th-grade English and coaches the 5th/6th and 7th/8th cheerleaders.
Mrs. Moore chose to attend UCA for the “at home” feeling she had during her campus visit. “Each year at UCA, I realized more and more how blessed I was to be there. I am forever thankful for the people and experiences that UCA brought me!”
Many of these experiences were found in the education program. “The professors, how well they prepare you for the real world, and the experiences they offer to prepare you are nothing short of the best,” Mrs. Moore said.
Thank you, Mrs. Moore, for sharing about UCA! If you are interested in learning more about the University of Central Arkansas, visit https://uca.edu/.

The El Dorado School District will honor Warren Harshaw with a court dedication ceremony this Friday, February 17th. The ceremony will take place immediately following the girls' game. We look forward to a great crowd to cheer on the Cats and honor Coach Harshaw!

In honor of Valentine's Day, our K-6 librarians came together for a project involving literacy and community service. They shared the story "Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch" by Eileen Spinelli with their elementary and middle school students. Then, students created valentines for residents in the local nursing homes. The students enjoyed the story and making their cards. We know the residents will enjoy them, too!
