Our school counselors have a combined 135 years in the El Dorado School District, and to say we are thankful for their contributions and dedication to our students and community would be an understatement. We asked them a few questions--one being "What is the most rewarding aspect of being a school counselor?"--their answers were just as touching as we would expect them to be.
If you see one of these fabulous ladies, be sure to thank them for their guidance and counsel they provide to our students and staff!
Thank you, ESD Counselors, for all you have done and all you continue to do for our students, staff, and community. We are blessed to have you in our schools!

Yesterday may have felt like spring, but winter break is coming! ESD will be closed Monday, February 20th for Winter Break.
Students will also be out of school on Tuesday, February 21st for Parent-Teacher Conferences. For more information, contact your student's teacher.

Grace Wolfe, a teacher at El Dorado High School, attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello for 3 years before transferring to Southern Arkansas University to complete her degree. She currently teaches 9th-grade English.
Mrs. Wolfe initially chose UAM because she had received a full scholarship and the proximity to home. "It was far enough away from home I felt far away but close enough I could get home pretty fast if there was an emergency.” She was a member of the collegiate debate team, including being the state champion speaker for Arkansas from 2017-2018.
Although UAM held many special memories, Mrs. Wolfe chose to transfer to SAU for her final year after the loss of one of her best friends in a tragic accident. Knowing she needed space and time to heal, she moved back in with her parents, whose support was key to her success during that difficult time. “Having the support of my family during this time was crucial for me.”
SAU was also special to Mrs. Wolfe’s family, because everyone who had attended college had gone to SAU. It was “our family’s school, so they were thrilled when I made the switch,” she said.
Thank you, Mrs. Wolfe, for sharing about your college experiences! If you’d like more information on UAM or SAU, visit www.uamont.edu or https://web.saumag.edu.

ESD has had several reports of black ice on bridges this morning. Please be careful while traveling to work and school today!
Shake off the dreary weather and join the cast of Freaky Friday for opening night! The show begins at 7pm!

El Dorado School District is closely monitoring the weather and weather forecast as it relates to student safety. A decision will be made at a later time if the closure is extended into tomorrow.
We canceled school today, and then, not much happened. The experts predicted inclement weather, and we were left with the decision. Do we play the “wait-til-it-happens-and-cancel” game? The one where parents scramble to find childcare with only a few hours notice, and teachers try to readjust lessons since they didn’t have a chance to send home assignments the day before. What if we wait until it’s absolutely necessary, say after bus routes have started running or morning drop off has started? Then the roads are full of school buses and teenage drivers making their way home in increasingly unsafe driving conditions.
Our other option is to we play it safe, trust the forecast, plan for an AMI Day*, and cancel early, knowing very well it could miss us.
You know what they say about hindsight; well, in South Arkansas, you might as well throw it out the window when discussing the weather. Our weather is only predictable in that it’ll be winter one day and summer the next. So when the decision to close school is in front of us, we do our best with the information we have.
As our superintendent said, “I’d rather apologize everyday for canceling school when it wasn’t needed than to not cancel and apologize for someone being in a fatal accident.”
*For more information about AMI, please visit our website here: https://www.eldoradopublicschools.org/page/ami-day-information
Due to an unfortunate scheduling conflict, the Cardiac Screening for student-athletes grades 9-12 scheduled for February 13-16 has been canceled. We will notify guardians and athletes of a reschedule date if and when possible.
Pending weather conditions, the El Dorado School District will start two hours late tomorrow, February 2, 2023. All ESD schools will begin at 10am. Buses will run their regular routes, and students may be dropped off beginning at 9:30am.
If weather conditions change or become more severe, further guidance will be provided.
Due to the high probability of inclement weather and the winter weather advisory in place for Union County, the El Dorado School District will use an AMI (Alternate Method of Instruction) Day for Wednesday, February 1st. Please follow the AMI guidance provided by your school. All campuses will be closed. All extracurricular activities scheduled for tomorrow are canceled and will be rescheduled if and when possible. Further announcements will be made if the closure is extended.

Due to deteriorating weather conditions, all after-school athletic practices are canceled today.

The BJHS Parent Night originally scheduled for tomorrow evening has been rescheduled for THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH at 6pm in the BJHS Cafeteria. All BJHS parents are encouraged to attend!

This afternoon, members of the El Dorado School District School Board and administration gathered to celebrate and “Flip the Switch” on the District’s newly constructed 1.75 MW-AC solar array. The project will offset 88% of the District’s energy usage and expenses, saving ESD over $128,000 annually in energy costs.
ESD entered into a Solar Services Agreement (SSA) with Entegrity, an energy efficiency and solar company headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas. With an SSA, the District creates savings by purchasing renewable energy from Entegrity at a fixed price lower than their current electricity rate.
Jim Tucker, Superintendent of El Dorado School District, stated, “We are extremely excited to see this project come to life. Thanks to the School Board’s support, this project will bring our schools significant cost savings over its lifetime and allow us to divert funds to support our students and their learning environment.”
The solar energy produced by the new array will also make an environmental impact with carbon reductions equivalent to saving 310,602 gallons of gasoline or powering 348 homes for a year. ESD students will gain firsthand experience with the rapidly growing renewable energy industry, learning how solar energy positively impacts their everyday lives.

Guardians of athletes grades 9-12! One final reminder that registration forms for cardiovascular testing are due TODAY. Drop off the forms when you pick up your athlete from school this afternoon!
Can you believe it?! Next Friday marks the 100th Day of School!

Mandy Kingery, teacher at Northwest Elementary, graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She currently teaches kindergarten.
What drew her to HLGU was the small teacher-to-student class ratio. As a bonus, “it was a Christian college with such a happy and calm atmosphere! It felt just right!” Although it was 12 hours away from her family, Mrs. Kingery felt at home. “I loved my teachers; they made learning fun!...It was very important to me to have teacher that I knew I could count on to not only teach me, but I felt loved by them as well.”
The best part of her HLGU experience? She met her husband there! Fun fact: Mr. Kingery also teaches in the district!
Thank you, Mrs. Kingery, for sharing about HLGU! If you are interested in learning more about the Hannibal-LaGrange University, visit https://www.hlg.edu/.

Guardians of EHS Athletes Grades 9-12! Remember that EHS is offering FREE cardiovascular testing February 13-16. You can sign your athlete up** by visiting our website eldoradopublicschools.org.
