2021 teacher of the year

Congratulations to the 2020-2021 El Dorado School District Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Kathy Sixbey!

Mrs. Sixbey loves “the excitement and look on a child’s face after they realize that they can read! It’s like a whole new world opens up for them!” She herself enjoys reading, and her favorite books are books that make her laugh. “Amelia Bedelia books are my go-to for a laugh. I also like books that inspire and encourage. A couple of my favorites are I Wish You More and Who You Were Made to Be. One thing's for sure, children's books are some of the best for teaching life lessons to any age group.”

Her love for her students shines in all that she does. Her passion and excitement are contagious. Mrs. Sixbey is so fun to be around! She finds ways to connect with students and get them to believe in their own success. She believes “if you are intentional about making connections with your students and the plans you design, you’re winning. It’s all about connections!”

Mrs. Sixbey just completed her 27th year of teaching, all in El Dorado Schools. She spent 18 years at Yocum where she taught a variety of classes, and for the last nine years, she has been at Hugh Goodwin. She currently serves as the HG Literacy Facilitator. Mrs. Sixbey has three wonderful children, Sarah (25), John (23), and Patrick (17), and she is looking forward to her upcoming marriage to Donnie Clayton.

Thank you, Mrs. Sixbey, for your dedication to the students of El Dorado Public Schools!
