Congratulations to the El Dorado School District Honorees of the Month from Hugh Goodwin Elementary School.

Student of the Month: Jackson Plummer

Hugh Goodwin’s student of the month of November is Jackson Plummer.  Jackson is in the 2nd grade and is the son of Jarrod and Ashley Plummer.  His teacher, Mrs. Hodge said “Jackson follows the Gator Way!  He is kind to his classmates, helpful to others and he always follows directions. He has shown academic growth this year as well. He is the student you can always count on to be an example to others or a helper.”
His principal, Mrs. Collins said “Jackson is a model student who strives to excel academically and socially. He starts each day with a genuine, sweet smile and good attitude that he keeps all day long. He has a strong work ethic and goes “above and beyond” what is required. He is always willing and enthusiastic to do what is asked of him. He is a great role model for other students in his class and in the entire school. He is a true example of a Hugh Goodwin Gator!!! We are extremely proud of Jackson. He may be meek, but don’t let that fool you. He is mighty and will do great things as he continues to grow and learn in the coming years.’

Classified Employee of the Month: Chelcy Taylor

Hugh Goodwin’s classified employee of the month for November is Chelcy Taylor.  Mrs. Taylor has worked in the El Dorado School District for 7 years.  She was a paraprofessional for 5 years and has been the Secretary at Hugh Goodwin for two years. Co-workers said Chelcy Taylor is definitely more than just a secretary.  Her love for the staff and students is evident in the way she diligently serves them day by day.  There’s not anything that she won’t do to help in whatever way is needed.  She is kind, compassionate, and efficient in dealing with staff, students, parents, and the public.  She helps the day-to-day tasks of a school run as smoothly as possible.  Mrs. Collins said “she is the true captain of our ship and keeps our school running.  Have you ever worked for one hour as the secretary in an elementary school?  If not then you have no idea how talented this woman truly is!  She comes early, stays late, and always gets the job done.  She is not only the secretary, but a nurse, counselor, teacher, phone operator, task manager, meteorologist, bookkeeper, and above all serves as the face of our school.  She greets students and parents day in and day out, providing them with information and always with a smile.  All lf Hugh Goodwin is so thankful for Mrs. Taylor.  We ALL love her dearly and absolutely will continue to sing her praises for the work she does each day at Hugh Goodwin.  All she wants for Christmas is a new phone/intercom system!

Certified Employee of the Month: Lara Robbins

Hugh Goodwin’s Teacher of the month for November is Lara Robbins. Mrs. Robbins is a 4th grade Math & Science teacher and has been teaching for 24 years, 22 of those have been in the El Dorado School District.  She has her Bachelors in Business Administration from SAU, a Master’s in Education from LaTech, and a Masters in Educational Leadership from ASU. Her co-workers said that she has such a natural way of connecting with students and maintaining a sense of authority and respect.  She is very in tune with student learning and adjusts her teaching style/schedule based on whether students are understanding the materials that are being presented.  Her students love to be in her classroom and she makes learning fun.  She has a go-get ‘em personality.  She always sees the best in students even when they are being difficult.  She is able to speak to every child in a manner that can be received by the student.  She is always making math and science fun through exciting lessons.  Mrs. Robbins is also willing to help anyone who asks.  She is very helpful to all staff, but especially new teachers.  She is a true leader and an example of the Gator Way at Hugh Goodwin.  Mrs. Collins said “what I love most about Mrs. Robbins is her spunk and delightful humor.  The quality of her teaching is exemplified by the success of her students.  Her reputation shows that she teaches the “WHOLE” child and feels a deep responsibility to help each student succeed.  She works to reach each student by setting high expectations for all students while making sure everyone feels successful.  She is much more than a math teacher with science and innovative technology being her greatest passions.  If you need a drone or robot instructor, she is your go-to teacher as well.  She is greatly respected by the Hugh Goodwin faculty, staff, and parents.  She models leadership skills to her students by being an outstanding leader in our school and we are proud she is a GATOR!
