  • Barton Junior High, Thursday, April 14th
    • Current 7th and 8th graders will attend their conference with their guardians.
    • Regular classes will not be in session--school is only open for conferences.

Conferences are scheduled with each student’s team teacher and will take place in the dome at Barton.

Each spring, El Dorado High School students spend time reviewing their transcripts and four-year plans, ensuring they are on track for graduation. Then, they look at the course catalog and plan their schedules for the upcoming year with the help of their homeroom teacher. Once they have decided on a schedule, the parent, student, and teacher meet to review and complete the registration forms for the next year. This is what we call CATS (Challenging All To Succeed) Conferences.

Barton Junior High students participate in Kittens Conferences. Similar to CATS, current 7th graders review their current schedule and the course catalog, then plan their schedules. Current 8th graders spend time looking at the EHS catalog, thinking about what classes they want to take during their four years of high school, and creating a four-year plan. They select classes based on this plan, which can be revised as needed throughout their high school career. Like CATS, the parent, student, and teacher meet to review and complete the registration forms for the upcoming school year.

This year, Washington Middle students will join the fun with their own conferences this year! Although they are not completing a four-year plan, they are participating in reviewing the course catalog and selecting electives that interest them. Allowing students to rank their electives helps them take ownership of their schedules and makes them think more carefully about what classes they want to take. With the wide variety of classes offered at all schools, students have more options than ever before!

If you have a child in 5th-11th grade, you should have received communication from your child's homeroom teacher to schedule your conference. If you need to schedule your conference, please contact them directly or reach out to your child's school.

We encourage all parents/guardians to participate in planning conferences. They allow your student to have input into what classes they take**, give you an opportunity to express your excitement or voice concerns about their schedule, and make completing registration paperwork much easier. With your student's registration completed, your student will already be one step ahead for the 2022-23 school year.

*The April Newsletter, Wildcat Connections, incorrectly stated that 4th graders would attend the WMS conference. 4th graders completed their schedules during their parent/teacher conferences and will not attend. They should report to school as normal on Tuesday, April 12th.

**Students are not guaranteed their first choice in electives. Due to scheduling conflicts, class sizes, etc., alternate choices may be used. It is highly recommended that students select alternates they are truly interested in, as they could end up in one of those electives.
