The El Dorado School District would like to announce Heather Jennings as the new ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) Director for the El Dorado School District.

Heather Jennings has been in education for 14 years, with the last eight years as a teacher at Barton Junior High School. She loves having the opportunity to teach children about the world around them and making a difference in their lives. This new role will allow her to go beyond the classroom walls to get to know students and their families throughout the district, and she’s “looking forward to helping students learn English as their second language and learning more about their cultures through the process.”

A graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, Jennings has a Bachelor of Science in Education with a History emphasis. She received her ESOL certification in the summer of 2020 and begins the TESOL Master’s program at the University of Arkansas this fall. When asked to recall her most memorable teaching experience, she said it wasn’t just one moment, but several little moments over the course of the last two years that have opened her eyes. One of her main goals as a teacher is to show her students that they matter to her. Through the actions of her students, she realized she had done just that. “Building those relationships really does flow into students’ classroom behavior, how willing they are to attempt challenging activities in the classroom, and how willing they are to do their very best.”

Jennings has been married for 15 years and has two children in the district. She enjoys fishing, reading, and spending time with her family. Her favorite food is Mexican food, and she hopes to travel the world someday!

We are thrilled to have Mrs. Jennings in the ESOL position and know that she will do an excellent job serving our community.
