office of the superintendent

From the Office of the Superintendent:

Yesterday, the El Dorado High School administration was notified that a student potentially had a firearm on campus. Since the report was received at the end of the school day, the administration immediately notified the El Dorado Police Department. The EPD located the student off campus, after school and found that the individual was in possession of a firearm at that time. The student was detained by EPD and will receive both out-of-school and legal consequences.

We take this incident seriously and ask for your help in addressing the important issue of student safety. Please take a moment to review our school safety policies with your child found in the school policies on our website here: https://bit.ly/ESDStudentPolicy22-23.

Also, we would like to take a moment to highlight the anonymous reporting system that is available to students, parents, and community members. Safety is one of our top priorities, and we want to ensure our students feel safe in our buildings. “See something, say something” is a long-standing motto, but when students do not feel comfortable coming forward to report something in person, they have the option to report it via our website. Parents and guardians, please check your child’s backpack each day and make sure that they bring to school only those items that belong on campus. For the El Dorado School District to remain a safe haven for children, we must all–parents, staff, and community members–work together to provide the safe environment that our children deserve.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call our Central Office at 870.864.5006. Thank you for your support and assistance in keeping our schools safe for children.
