Congratulations to the El Dorado School District Honorees of the Month from El Dorado High School.

EHS Student of the Month: Lauren Nelson

Lauren Nelson is a senior at EHS and is very involved in sports. She is a member of the Varsity Basketball, Varsity Cheer,  and Varsity Track teams. She is a member of the Student Council and National Honor Society.  She is also a strong student who started her senior year with 20 credits and with a 3.4 GPA.  She is the daughter of Fred and Nichole Nelson and has one brother.

Her teachers say:

  • "Lauren is a leader! She leads in the classroom, cheer squad, and basketball teams! She represents our community very well! Lauren is the type of young lady who values a team. She goes above and beyond for everyone around her, even when she’s not getting credit for it! "
  • "Lauren Nelson is every coach's dream kid! Not only is she a freak athlete, Lauren is extremely coachable! If "yes coach" was a person, it would be Lauren!"
  • "Lauren is quick to help other students and keep everyone on task. She always dives into assignments and does not complain about doing work. Lauren is a very positive and encouraging person and a hardworking student."
  • "Miss Nelson has been a polite, well-mannered, diligent student in my senior English class.  Not only is Miss Nelson an exemplary student, but she also participates in cheerleading and plays on the girls' basketball team.  On the weekends, Miss Nelson works at Atwood's.  When Miss Nelson graduates from El Dorado High School, she will be well on her way to being a full-fledged adult. "

Mrs. Hill says:

I like how Lauren is her own person.  She participates in sports, but she also supports other school activities like Student Council.  She has lots of friends, but she is not afraid to stand up for what she believes or go her own way. She is always smiling, and you just can’t help smiling back at her!  She is also very resilient.  She suffered a serious sports injury and worked very hard to be able to return to the team. She may not understand it yet, but learning how to work through adversity at an early age will serve her well in the future.  Our staff picked a great choice for Student of the Month as Lauren is definitely an asset to EHS.

EHS Classified Employee of the Month: David Roy

Mr. Roy has worked for the district since 2006 and for 11 Years at EHS.  He has been married to his lovely wife, Brenda, for 26 years and has 2 children.  Mr. Roy loves to read and be involved with children.

His coworkers say:

  • Mr. Roy goes out of his way to make sure his students have everything they need to have to be successful in class.
  • He is a Godsend.
  • Mr. Roy is a hard worker and the kindest man you will ever meet!! He always has an encouraging word to uplift your day. Mr. Roy always talks about his love for his family. His family is his pride and joy! Mr. Roy is an encouraging light and it shows up each day in his conversations and through his love for his work. Mr. Roy is a true example of "letting your light shine."

Mrs. Hill:  I’ve worked with Mr. Roy for a long time, both at EHS and Barton.  He is one of the kindest people I know.  If he ever has a bad day, he never shows it.  He is always here for the kids and his co-workers.  Mr. Roy brings light with him as he moves about the school each day.   He is one of the people I can count on to always do the right thing. I wish we could clone him and put a clone in each room to work with teachers supporting our kids with special needs.  I am so glad he was chosen as classified employee of the month.  I don’t think Mr. Roy would ever seek out attention and praise, but he certainly deserves it.

EHS Teacher of the Month: Lauren Cross

Mrs. Cross teaches Journalism I-III, Intro to Media Communications, and is in her 7th year here at EHS. Lauren Cross graduated from SAU with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media Production in 2010 and earned her  MAT from UAM in 2017.

She worked in newspapers in Arkansas and Mississippi from 2009 until 2015. As of 2021, she is a Certified Journalism Educator through the Journalism Educators Association and will be recognized at JEA's national convention in St. Louis in November.

She and her husband Joey love to hike and camp, and she is a chronic crafter. On a silly note, at one time her name and address were listed on the National Hobo Registry (not sure if it still is or not), and her hobo road name is Latch Hook.

Her fellow teachers say  “She goes above and beyond to foster a community of learning for her students, is always willing to collaborate and grow as an educator, and will soon be recognized nationally as a certified teacher of Journalism at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention!”

Vice Principal John Jameson says:  “Mrs. Cross goes above and beyond for every student at El Dorado High School. She connects with every student she comes into contact with and truly cares about every person that walks through the doors of EHS (Students and Teachers). She is willing to help any teacher with anything she can and always has a great sense of humor. So much more than content is taught by Mrs. Cross, she is teaching life.”

Principal Sherry Hill: "Lauren Cross is a teacher who cares about her students and her fellow teachers.  She rarely leaves school on time and is always finding ways to support others.  She is the first one to go all in on school spirit days which shows the kids that it is important to have fun while working.  She is an integral part of the EHS staff and we would not be the same school without her. She is one of those rare people who sees a need and without being asked to,  steps in to help.  She is never one to say, “that’s not my job.”  Lauren is the type of teacher we wish we all could be.  Her coworkers and I are so happy she is being recognized as the Teacher of the Month."
