free cardiovascular testing available for all ehs athletes

The El Dorado High School Sports Medicine Department is taking an extra step to protect the Wildcats by providing cardiovascular testing for STUDENT-ATHLETES grades 9-12 on school grounds.

Why is this important?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by an abnormality in the heart's electrical system or structure that abruptly stops the heartbeat. It is the leading cause of death to athletes on school campuses. According to the American Heart Association, every 3 days a young athlete dies from Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the United States. In 80% of these cases, there are no warning signs or symptoms leading up to a cardiac arrest.

What tests are they performing on my athlete?

CAPPOHealth will perform an EKG and Echocardiogram to detect heart conditions that can put your athlete at risk for a cardiac episode and a Vascular Ultrasound to identify vascular conditions common to athletes (such as blood clots and DVTs). All tests are non-invasive, and the privacy of your child is always maintained.  All three tests will take approximately 45 minutes.

When is this happening?

Testing will take place on Monday, February 13th, and Tuesday, February 14th. Appointments are filled based on availability.

Who qualifies for the testing?

At this time, testing is open to all El Dorado High School student-athletes grades 9-12.

What does this cost?

There are no upfront costs for this testing. CAPPOHealth will bill your health insurance carrier, accepting what your carrier deems usual and customary. As required by law, your insurance will bill for any deductible or co-insurance owed, if applicable. There are several circumstances that would waive any balance due for this testing (including saving for college). Please be aware that if you have an HSA, FSA, or HRA account, funds may automatically be deducted if a balance is due. We encourage you to call us at (833) 244-5700 to verify your benefits or to answer any questions you have about the billing process.
