A second-grade student from Yocum Elementary is $1,000 richer this week after being randomly selected as the grand prize winner in a regional fundraising drawing held by World’s Finest Chocolate.
The drawing, which included participating elementary schools across Arkansas and Louisiana, was open to students who sold at least two boxes of the popular fundraising chocolate during their spring school fundraisers. Thousands of students took part in the effort, but it was eight-year-old Devonta Hill from Yocum Elementary in El Dorado who walked away with the grand prize.
Devonta sold boxes of chocolate to neighbors, friends, and family, each box containing a variety of the iconic $1 chocolate bars. The fundraiser was part of a larger initiative by World’s Finest Chocolate to help schools raise money for classroom supplies, technology upgrades, field trips, etc.
“We are so proud of Devonta and all the students who worked hard to support our school through this fundraiser,” said Jessica Moore, Yocum Elementary Principal.
