"O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, How Lovely Are Your...Numbers?" Mrs. Coan's students at EHS created a Christmas Tree using math during one of their recent RTI sessions. Check out their pictures, and Mrs. Coan's explanation of the project!
"The Sierpinski triangle is a self-similar fractal that was discovered by Waclaw Sierpinski in 1915. My students created a representation of it by playing the Chaos Game, generating random numbers with a die, and marking the midpoints of segments. Once you see the pattern, you can use equilateral triangular pyramids to construct a 3-dimensional model, which becomes a mathematical “Christmas tree” when constructed with green and red paper. Ours is about 3 feet tall and consists of 256 small pyramids," Mrs. Coan explained.
Washington Middle School beginning and advanced orchestra students performed at the courthouse earlier this month.

Good luck to the El Dorado Varsity Cheer Competition Team as they travel to Hot Springs to compete in the state cheerleading competition tomorrow at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The team will face 12 teams, with only 4 of the 13 teams making it to the finals. Their preliminary competition times are:
Band Chant: 9:48am
Cheer: 10:46am
Fight Song: 11:44am
Finals will take place around 1pm.

All ESD schools will dismiss at 2:25pm on Friday, December 17th.
Staff will return Monday, January 3rd for a staff development day.

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado School Board will be held on December 13th at 6:00pm in the Central Office Board Room. The public is invited to attend.
The Varsity Cheerleaders will host the 11th Annual El Dorado Invitational tomorrow in the Wildcat Arena. The competition begins at 2pm, and doors open at 1pm. Entry is $5 at the door for ages kindergarten and up.
BJHS and EHS are competing, while the WMS 6th grade team is showcasing. It's a great opportunity to cheer for the cheerleaders!
The competition will also be a donation site for Boys & Girls Club of El Dorado MASH Toy Drive. There will be a table set up near the entrance if you would like to bring a new, unwrapped toy to help benefit the children of our local Boys & Girls Club!
REMINDER: You will not want to miss "A Night of Simply Christmas" with the EHS Fine Arts Department tonight! It begins at 6:00pm in the Wildcat Arena.

The Wildcats and Lady Cats will host their first PINK OUT tomorrow, December 7th. The Lady Cats tip off at 6pm, followed by the ceremony at 7pm. The Wildcats will begin immediately following the ceremony. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or online.
