College Wednesday: Teacher Edition
Hayden Nooner, teacher at Barton Junior High, attended Harding University where he received a BA in Theatre. Mr. Nooner is currently teaching Slams & Jams and MP3. He was also just named El Dorado School District Teacher of the Month!
When deciding what college to attend, Mr. Nooner was looking for “a smaller school with a big school feel.” He felt Harding was the perfect fit; it’s a big campus with several degree options but still maintains that family-style atmosphere. “The class sizes are fairly small, so it is very easy to connect with your professors and classmates.”
When asked what made his Harding experience special, Mr. Nooner noted that students have the opportunity to study abroad at one of HU’s six international campuses. As a sophomore, he studied in London and was able to travel to ten different countries that semester.
Thank you, Mr. Nooner, for sharing your Harding experience! If you are interested in learning more about Harding University, visit https://www.harding.edu/.

COLLEGE WEDNESDAY: TEACHER EDITION
Mrs. Leia Hickmott, Math Facilitator at Yocum Elementary, attended Henderson State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education.
A big reason why Mrs. Hickmott chose HSU was the location--it wasn't too far from home, but it was far enough that she had to develop some independence and adjust to not being around her mom.
When asked what makes HSU special, Mrs. Hickmott said, “I went through two very traumatic losses while attending college here. My father passed at the beginning of my second year. My fiance passed one month before graduation. Although I wasn't involved in many clubs or extracurricular activities, all the staff worked with me and were very sympathetic to my situation. Had it not been for the entire staff in the teacher's college, I would not have graduated my last year. Those same staff members awarded me the Spirit of Ryan Halaby award for showing persistence and excellence through my time in the teachers college.”
Thank you, Mrs. Hickmott, for sharing a special part of your college experience! If you are interested in learning more about Henderson State University, visit https://www.hsu.edu/pages/future-students/.
