NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The National Honor Society is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The E.M. Dunning Senior Chapter of the National Honor Society endeavors to create enthusiasm for scholarship and to stimulate the development of character. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average are encouraged to apply for membership. Eligibility for membership in National Honor Society must meet the core requirements for unconditional admission to college. Applicants who rate satisfactorily according to the Society’s four cardinal principals—scholarship, character, leadership, and service—may qualify for membership. In order to remain a member in NHS, a student must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, must take at least one advanced placement course, and must meet the course requirements for unconditional admission to college. Members must also complete 12 hours of community service per year and must pay early membership dues. Members who have met the NHS requirements for a minimum of 2 years have the honor of wearing the NHS stole at graduation.
