Deca presents

DECA Students presented at the Kawanis meeting Wednesday to discuss their upcoming Competition at the International/National DECA Conference in late April in Anaheim, CA.

DECA is a Career and Technical Student Organization on campus, very similar to FBLA(Future Business Leaders of America). DECA is different due to focusing on building emerging future business leaders in the areas of Marketing, Finance, Hospitality, Entrepreneurship, and also involving a community service component to give back to our local community.

EHS has 3 students who qualified at the state DECA Competition this year and now get to attend and compete in their events at the International/National Competition in Anaheim, CA in late April.

Claire Herrmann competed in a Project Management event for Community Giving--she held a Homecoming Dance this year for the first time in over 10 years and she donated money to Campfire and to Salvation Army.

Noel Phillips competed in a Project Management event for Community Awareness--she has her own Baking Business and she held a cupcake fundraiser for Aprile Richardson who is her EHS 10th grade English teacher who was diagnosed with breast cancer stage IV for the 2nd time. Her awareness campaign was on financial toxicity in cancer patients. She raised and donated over $2000 to #Team Aprile. She also managed the awareness part by networking with others that sold merchandise to donate to #teamAprile as well.

Kayla Mercer competed in Food Marketing which included a 100 question test and a role play. Her role play this year was on Food Shrinkage--and it has been a huge topic of ours to talk about as well as all the girls gaining confidence in speaking and networking with others. This is a great accomplishment for EHS DECA.

Mrs. Jackie Phillips is the DECA sponsor at EHS and is currently seeking sponsors to help pay for the trip to present the International/National Competition in Anaheim, CA in late April.
