officiating

We are proud to announce that El Dorado High School stands out as one of the few schools in the state to offer a sports officiating class to its students. This innovative program not only introduces young people to the rules and responsibilities of officiating various sports, but also equips them with practical skills they can use to earn certifications and even begin working as referees while still in high school. Our students will be certified in football, basketball, and baseball.

By offering this unique class, El Dorado High School provides students with a pathway to leadership, decision-making, and job opportunities in athletics, setting it apart as a forward-thinking school that prepares its students for success both on and off the field. Coach Jeff Burson leads the class with his years of experience in multiple sports.

Today, these students had a chance to discuss officiating football with two Arkansas Activities Association officials. EHS Principal John Jameson and Mr. Reggie Thomas, a former Wildcat and West Point Quarterback, were able to answer questions from the students about officiating football, from mechanics to how to handle upset coaches on the sideline. Through video breakdown and game scenarios, the students gained a different perspective on the expectations of officiating. To extend the learning beyond the classroom, Mr. Thomas and Mr. Jameson invited the students to join them on the field to receive in-game training and experience.

We are excited to see our Wildcat officiating students on their own in the near future, implementing everything they have learned throughout the course.
