Mrs. Mize's English IV classes researched background information for a book they will begin reading this past week. The book is "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. This story focuses on the main character, Okonkwo, an African man who is part of the Ibo tribe. Students learned about the Ibo people, Nigeria (the setting of the book), and about the author's life and accomplishments. Students worked in groups of three, each researching a piece of background information. Then students summarized their research, drew a symbol that represented a topic that they learned about and then presented their findings to their classmates.
Things Fall Apart has been translated into over 50 languages and has sold over 20 million copies.

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”

OPEN HOUSE UPDATE
Please take note that times have changed for Open House on Wednesday, August 8th. These times are different from the Wildcat Weekly!

Congrats to the Wildcat Tennis teams for their awesome showing this weekend at the Lion Invitational Tennis Tournament in Searcy. The girls' team tied for 3rd; the boys' placed 4th. Doubles team Carson Ricker and Gary Gauthier made it to the semi-finals. Junior Emma Thomas made it to the finals, but fell to Conway's Taylor Lemieux, a senior who hasn't lost a match at this tournament in four years.
"The most challenging match was when I played in the finals against Taylor from Conway. From this match, I learned to be as consistent as possible and allow your opponent to make the mistakes," Thomas said of her play in the tournament.
Coach Stephanie Thomas is really excited to see where the season goes. "I'm so proud of this team. They worked really hard the last two days. It's going to be a fun season."
