The EHS Orchestra held a mini-concert to prepare for their regional event next Tuesday. In the last two years, the orchestra has earned superior and excellent ratings each time. They have been working on these selections of music for about a month and a half: Velocity, The Gift an Aria for String Orchestra, and Desperate Measures. At the concert assessment, they will play three prepared pieces of music off of the state required list, then after the prepared performance, they will be assessed on how well they sight read a brand new piece of music. Good luck! We know you will do well!

Lukas Humphreys and Dave Davison were named to the Arkansas All-State chess team for their performance in tournaments this season. The eight top large school players in Arkansas were named to the team; Lukas and Dave are the only ninth graders on the team. Together with junior Hanzala Ali, they combined to finish 4th at the state tournament in Benton on Saturday March 3rd. Congrats to the EHS Chess Team!! We are so proud of you!

Mrs. Mize and Mrs. Cantrell's senior English classes have been reading Shakespeare's Macbeth. To help students, Mrs. Mize and Mrs. Cantrell encouraged students to use No Fear Shakespeare, which puts the Shakespearean language beside the modern text. Students also created storyboards to guide them through the story. Pictures can be found on the Facebook website.

Research time! Sophomore and junior English classes have been researching over the last few weeks. Although researching can be frustrating, students learn to persevere and decipher legitimate sources from all the nonsense out there. Understanding how to research is just as important as writing the research papers. Good luck, researchers! We know you can do this!

From Ms. Antoon, AP English Literature teacher:
One of my favorite projects in AP Literature- after a novel or play unit students select a relationship in the text, quantify it, and create graphs of the two elements in the work! Data selection comes from quotes in the text. Then they connect those interlocking elements to the meaning of the work. Students really did an outstanding job this time! Can’t wait to read their Othello essays they wrote today!

Ms. Fox's APUSH students participated in a fun activity, helping them understand Island Hopping, a strategy used by the US in World War II.
The purpose of Island Hopping was to battle the fewest amount of islands possible in the Pacific to get to Japan. In the activity, the students had the choice to battle more islands to get to Japan or battle less, but there was a risk with battling less--they had to "hop" from 1 desk to another (probably about 3 feet), and if they did not make it, they "died," and the US had 1 less person to use to "defeat" the Japanese controlled islands. Check the Facebook page for pictures!

Ever wonder what your future child will look like?! Mrs. Lowe's Biology and Pre-AP Biology students were paired up to draw babies using the concepts of Mendelian Genetics to determine what traits their child would have. What a cool activity, Mrs. Lowe! Check out the Facebook post for pictures!

Huge thanks to Mr. Greg Owens for speaking to the photography classes last week. Mr. Owens shared his wisdom and knowledge of photography with students, making plans to come back soon. EHS is blessed with wonderful community partners!
