Mrs. McDuffie's English II students created posters highlighting powerful words from Elie Weisel’s “Perils of Indifference” speech. They are preparing to research social injustices around the world and the role of indifference and “the bystander effect” on those affected by injustice.

Throughout the year, the EHS band directors will invite various local directors to come in, direct a rehearsal, and visit with students. This week, J.P. Wilson, the Director of Bands at Southern Arkansas University, led the students through a relatively new piece of music, giving them feedback and encouragement. The students soaked it up and enjoyed the experience! Typically, students are able to ask questions about the college's band program or college life as a member of the band. It's a great opportunity for students to get a feel of college directors and get constructive criticism. Thanks to Mr. Kloap for giving EHS students a variety of adventures!
Don't forget!

Students in Mr. Johnson's Visual Art II classes are working on carving linoleum blocks to make prints, but there's a catch. In order to participate, students must pass a Carver's Test with an 80% or higher to be issued their carver's license. Throughout the project, principals and resource officers come through to check for the students' licenses. If they don't have their license, the student must answer two safety questions correctly before they can continue working. Great work!
The Army JROTC Military Ball will take place on March 31st at the American Legion at 5pm. Formal attire required. The cost is $15 for a single ticket; $25 for couples tickets. The deadline to purchase tickets is February 19th. See Sergeant Matthews for more information.

EHS sophomore Emmaline Landes was named a Distinguished Finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring students in grades 5-12 for outstanding volunteer service.
Emmaline, known to her friends as Emme, has raised more than $5,000 for local charities since 2013 through a line of paintings she calls “Heartworks,” and since February 2017 alone has sold or donated more than 80 of her paintings to support causes from abandoned animals to healthcare for people with ALS.
Since she applied for the award, she has raised over $2200 additional funds during her “One Night Stand” Art Show and Sale in honor of Brooks Garrison. $1000 was donated to the Agape House in his honor and $1000 to the FedEx House in Memphis at LeBonheur Hospital also in his honor. The Garrison family stays at FedEx House while Brooks receives medical care at LeBonheur. The remainder was given to the ALS Foundation in memory of her Mimi.
Congrats, Emme! You make EHS proud!

While discussing how major trade routes facilitated the spread of goods, technology, and belief systems from one culture to another, Mr. Mize brought several artifacts from his time in China to share with his students. Mr. Mize spent seven years living in China, teaching English. He has been back in the US for two years and teaches AP World History at EHS.
The batik shows caravan traders traveling along the Silk Road. Soaring above them are angels, called apsaras. The batik represents the importance and spread of Buddhism along the Silk Road. The batiks originated from Dunhuang, China, a trade city.
Thank you, Mr. Mize, for bringing your historical experience into the classroom!
EHS band students have been excelling this competition season! Students have been selected to All-Region Jazz Band, Four-States Bandmasters Honor Band, ASBOA Region III All-Region, and All-State bands.
It's back!
Nearly three years ago, EHS freshmen Coriana Davis painted a picture that has since travelled all over the state of Arkansas, visiting various art centers, and spent a year on display at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. Today, that painting returned to Ms. Davis.
Coriana Davis won an Honorable Mention at Young Arkansas Artists when she was a 6th grader at Washington Middle School under the direction of art teacher Katie Harwell. The Young Arkansas Artists is a statewide competition that awards one Best of Show and two Honorable Mentions for each grade.
Coriana worked on the painting, an Acrylic on Canvas, for several months and was a part of the paintings/projects Mrs. Harwell's Studio Art classes and Maria Villegas designed for the School Based Health Center. A large print of this painting is in the waiting room at the center on the WMS campus.
Congrats, Coriana! What a great accomplishment!
Thespian Troupe 42 is ready for their long bus ride to Paragould for the Arkansas State Thespian Festival! Good luck, Troupe 42!
Good luck to our EHS Swim Team as they head to Hendrix in Conway to compete in the 6A/7A District meet today!

Mrs. Campbell's junior English classes are reading "Of Mice and Men," and as an introduction to the novel, students participated in stations that discussed the controversial issues of the 1930s and their relation to the text. Students were able to see different types of sources, including photos, videos, and articles. Students were engaged and really enjoyed the activity!
The El Dorado School Board approved the following plan for the two snow days in January:
