Mrs. Mize's English IV classes researched background information for a book they will begin reading this past week. The book is "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. This story focuses on the main character, Okonkwo, an African man who is part of the Ibo tribe. Students learned about the Ibo people, Nigeria (the setting of the book), and about the author's life and accomplishments. Students worked in groups of three, each researching a piece of background information. Then students summarized their research, drew a symbol that represented a topic that they learned about and then presented their findings to their classmates. Things Fall Apart has been translated into over 50 languages and has sold over 20 million copies.
